The purpose of the School Facilities Preservation Millage is to seek the renewal of an existing property tax, which serves as a crucial source of funding. The funding would ensure NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) can allocate significant resources toward the sustainability and quality of our school buildings for future generations.
Funding from the millage would be used for vital maintenance and repair work, including roof replacements, new air conditioning systems, and window repairs. By continuing to preserve our exceptional school facilities, this initiative guarantees conducive environments that are safe, modern, and well-maintained for our scholars to thrive.
The millage is a renewal, not a new tax, that will fund all public schools across the city and will be directed through a facilities master plan. In 2019-2020, the district created 10-year capital plans for each school facility, defining the projects and funding necessary to maintain each campus. Between fiscal years 21-22, the district approved more than $50 million in capital projects to begin major investments in existing school facilities.
